How does HD audio work?

Instead of limiting a call frequency to between 300 Hz and 3.4 kHz, a wideband audio call transmits at a range of 50 Hz to 7 kHz, or higher. That's much more in line with the human voice, which transmits audio between 75 Hz and 14 kHz. HD Voice also takes in more audio samples per second than a standard call. Instead of 8,000 audio samples per second, HD Voice calls double that to 16,000. That way, you're able to hear more details in a person's voice during a call by using a higher-quality speech codec called AMR-WB (Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband). This codec doubles the frequency of the call, which means you'll hear less muffled voices and be able to better distinguish between "s" and "f" sounds. Source

Voice encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorised parties can read it. Encryption does not of itself prevent interception, but denies the message content to the interceptor.

How our voice encryption technology works

Our HD-encrypted voice conferencing and secure SIP signalling provide confidentiality, authentication and message integrity against manipulation, all via key distribution and certification.

All phone calls consist of two components;

  • signalling - establishes parameters for building, maintaining, and breaking-down the call, and
  • media/payload - the actual call audio, formatted into digital packets.

Data packets that contain voice and audio signalling are encrypted and authenticated (using an authentication tag) before they are transmitted to the network. The RTP and RTCP packets received from the network are verified using the authentication tag and decrypted. Packets which fail the verification of the authentication tag are dropped.
